Exhibition

  • Exhibition from June 1st to september 1st 2007 at Le Grand Café and at Escal'Atlantic, Saint-Nazaire

The Cuban artists Los Carpinteros have a different strategy and position. They are interested in the points at which art and society intersect, the fusion of architecture, design and sculpture. This then gives form to surprising works that are at times comical and poetic, yet without sidelining a critical and political dimension connected to the context in which their work is elaborated: Cuba.

Hence this series of swimming pools brought together at Le Grand Café: luxury objects banned in Cuba that have become phantasmagorical for the artists who, practicing the art of reversal and of the absurd, make them into a sort of inverted island, a negative space.

They are, when all is said and done, a commentary on the collapse of Cuban infrastructures and a powerful voyage into the imagination.
